The $180,000 Firewall That Wasn't Needed
A manufacturer came to us after receiving a proposal from another IT vendor for a $180,000 firewall overhaul. Their existing firewall was flagged as inadequate for their expanded production environment.
When we looked at their setup, the firewall was properly spec'd. What had actually happened: their production network had expanded two years earlier, and nobody had updated the firewall's segmentation policy to reflect the new topology. Traffic that should have been blocked between shop floor and corporate was leaking through gaps that shouldn't have existed.
The fix was a three-day tuning engagement and about $8,000 in configuration work. They didn't need a new firewall. They needed someone who understood what their existing one was supposed to be doing.
That client is now in their eleventh year with us.
