IT for Education

Cost-conscious IT that respects academic calendars, works with mixed device fleets, and lets your teachers teach instead of troubleshoot.

Education IT Isn't Corporate IT

Your calendar is different. Your budget is scrutinized. Your users are teachers, students, and administrators, all with different needs. Downtime during exams isn't an inconvenience, it's a crisis.

Wizcom has supported K-12 districts and higher-ed institutions across southeast Michigan for decades. We know the summer maintenance windows, the E-Rate calendar, and what happens when a district's network goes down the week before MEAP testing.

Whether you're a small charter school or a multi-building public district, the underlying job is the same: IT that supports learning without swallowing your operating budget.

Frameworks You're Working Under

Schools operate under several data protection frameworks. We build the technical controls that keep each one satisfied.

FERPA

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

The federal baseline for student records. We build access controls, retention policies, and disclosure logs that align with what an audit would expect.

CIPA

Children's Internet Protection Act

Required for E-Rate participation. Content filtering, safety policies, and monitoring implemented properly.

MI SOPIPA

Michigan Student Online Personal Information Protection Act

State-specific student privacy law with real teeth. We implement the vendor management and data-handling controls it requires.

E-Rate Compliance

USAC Requirements

Documentation, competitive bidding, and eligible service tracking that keep your discounts flowing without a clawback risk.

The $400,000 Network Refresh That Wasn't Needed

A district superintendent came to us after receiving a $400,000 network refresh proposal from another IT firm. Their board was already skeptical. Their budget didn't have room for it.

Our assessment: their existing infrastructure had four more years of good life. What they actually needed was network segmentation between student and staff traffic, updated wireless coverage in two specific buildings, and a firmware refresh on their access points. Total scope: $65,000.

E-Rate Category 2 covered 45% of that. The district paid $36,000 out of pocket. Same operational improvement the $400,000 proposal claimed, at a tenth of the price.

That district is now in their seventh year with us.

Questions School IT Leaders Ask

How does Wizcom handle FERPA compliance?
Student records are treated as legally protected data. We build access controls with real audit trails, help you document what data lives where, and prepare your breach response plan before you need it.
Are you familiar with E-Rate paperwork?
Yes. Form 470 posting, competitive bidding coordination, Form 471 filing, and Form 486 confirmation. We handle the technical vendor coordination and produce the documentation USAC will ask about during audits.
Can Wizcom schedule major work around our academic calendar?
Yes. Deployments and refreshes are scoped to summer, winter break, or spring break windows. First day of school, everything works.
Do you support LMS and SIS integration?
PowerSchool, Infinite Campus, Skyward, Canvas, and the Google Workspace / Microsoft 365 A integrations that tie them together. SSO, roster sync, and grade passback all part of standard engagement.
